2023 Midwest Beaver Summit

On September 13 and 20, 2023, the first ever Midwest Beaver Summit was held virtually. The webinar was co-hosted by The Superior Bio-Conservancy, the Illinois Beaver Alliance, American Rivers, Heartland Rewilding, Friends of the Chicago River, Native Range Ecological, LLC, The Beaver Institute, The Land Conservancy of McHenry County, and Midwest Beaver Management; and sponsored by Openlands, The Land Conservancy of McHenry County, and the Midwest Chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration.

With more than 800 unique registrants, we hope that the impact of the Summit will be wide-reaching. Registrants included a variety of stakeholders across the Midwest such as leaders of environmental nonprofits, employees of state and federal natural resource management agencies, members of watershed alliances, agricultural and agroforestry stakeholders, environmental restoration businesses, academia, and land trusts.

Of the environmental nonprofits, registrants identified affiliations with: Audubon Great Lakes, American Rivers, Alliance for the Great Lakes, Friends of the Chicago River, Friends of the Forest Preserves, Illinois Audubon Society, Illinois Environmental Council, OpenLands, Sierra Club Illinois, the Nature Conservancy Illinois, the Wetlands Initiative, Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, Savannah Institute, Indiana Forest Alliance, Indiana Wildlife Federation, Save the Dunes, The Nature Conservancy Indiana, The Humane Society, the Nature Conservancy Missouri, Audubon MN IA MO, National Audubon Society - Upper Mississippi River Region, North Country Trail Association, Audubon Ohio, Ohio River Foundation, Clean Lakes Alliance, Trout Unlimited Fox Valley WI, Great Lakes Wildlife Alliance, Milwaukee Riverkeeper, River Alliance of Wisconsin, Sierra Club Wisconsin, and the Urban Ecology Center.
