Midwest Beaver Working Group
Midwest Beaver Working Group
We are in the process of launching our new Midwest Beaver Working Group! Overseen by the Illinois Beaver Alliance and the Superior Bio-Conservancy, the working group will meet quarterly to share information about beaver advocacy efforts throughout the Midwest states. Are you interested in advocating for beavers in your Midwestern state? Sign up for our Midwest Beaver Working Group using the form below. Together we will build a coalition of stakeholders who understand the ecological value of keeping beavers on our Midwestern watersheds and who support affordable, streamlined permitting processes for pond levelers and culvert fencing (aka, "flow devices). Aspirationally, the Midwest Beaver Working Group will oversee three projects:
-
An annual Midwest Beaver Summit. On September 13 and 20, 2023, the first ever Midwest Beaver Summit was held virtually. The webinar was co-hosted by The Superior Bio-Conservancy, the Illinois Beaver Alliance, American Rivers, Heartland Rewilding, Friends of the Chicago River, Native Range Ecological, LLC, The Beaver Institute, The Land Conservancy of McHenry County, and Midwest Beaver Management; and sponsored by Openlands, The Land Conservancy of McHenry County, and the Midwest Chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration. CLICK HERE for more information and to watch videos of the presentations. We hope to put on our second Summit in 2024.
-
A Midwest Beaver Speaker Series. As a follow up to the Midwest Beaver Speaker Series, this series of free webinars will continue our work of promoting the incredible ecological importance of beavers, particularly in the Midwest, and the modern tools for managing human-beaver conflicts nonlethally. Our first webinar will be held on Tuesday, December 12, at 11 a.m. Central Time. Registration link to come.
